Of the 19 784 apartments certified as EDGE , a total of 12 126 are certified as EDGE Advanced which requires apartments to achieve an on-site energy saving of 40 % or more , in addition to a 20 % reduction in water usage and embodied energy in material . Nine buildings , including Balwin ’ s impressive new head office , have been awarded a sixstar rating from GBCSA .
“ More than 19 million m ² of our developments are EDGE certified , making Baldwin Properties the world ' s largest EDGE certifier , and accounting for nearly 4 % of all EDGE certified property globally ,” adds Brookes .
“ Our Green Bonds are becoming very popular , so far we have secured 2 667 green bonds for our clients , saving them a total of R182 million . There is exciting progress here and I believe we are close to securing a 1 % concession with the financial institutions . It ' s great to see the major credit providers getting on board and supporting green building sustainability .”
