into the development, significant contributions were made to the upgrading of William Nicol and Cedar Road. These upgrades have also had a positive effect on the development of Johannesburg’ s“ new north” providing economic growth and opportunities for the area as a whole. Furthermore, Steyn City has been involved in upgrading regional infrastructure for sewerage and water supply. Steyn City is a radical departure from your typical lifestyle resort. It makes sense, then, that the driving force behind it is creativity.
As Plumari puts it:“ I love the creative aspect of my work and enjoy playing an integral role in the creative process. I’ m determined to do business in a way that has a positive impact on those around me.”
The Man Behind the City
This creativity and drive to do good can be seen in Plumari’ s other ventures. One he is especially passionate about, is Ukuphila in the Magaliesberg. The farm has been his passion and outlet for the past 20 years. Originally, Plumari intended for Ukuphila to be a getaway for him and his family- after all, it’ s only an hour’ s drive from the city. Over the years, however, the project has grown:“ We’ ve launched a magnificent development where families will be able to purchase their own bushveld getaway.” Ukuphila is noteworthy not only as one of the few big five game reserves in Johannesburg, but also one of the only reserves that welcomes children.
“ We’ re planning a range of outstanding amenities to complete and augment the Ukuphila experience, that will enhance investors’ experience and create exciting opportunities for families to spend quality time together,” explains Plumari.
A 4,000ha reserve, the focus is on conservation and relaxation. The Plumari Private Reserve offers several activities, including game drives, trail running, and a museum. In addition, the Reserve is home to a conference facility, spa, restaurant, and a lodge. Hidden amongst the wild is the Ukuphila Bush Residence. A total of 75 homes are available, set out over three small communities of 25 homes each. Much planning has gone into ensuring that residents are offered the peace and quiet they deserve. The homes are designed and placed in such a way, that minimal disruption of the natural surroundings takes place.
It’ s clear that Plumari has a passion for property, but where did that come from? Born in Milan, Italy, his family emigrated to Johannesburg in 1966 when Plumari was 10 years old. In 1978, he decides to return to Milan. Here, he takes a job in the construction industry, but returns to South Africa within a year.“ I started my own business, focusing on small alterations of buildings. I purchased my first piece of land on deed of sale to provide alternative employment for workers in times of lows in construction … that was my first foray into the real estate industry.”
