Property Economics to a new level – Erwin Rode

Can the new economy spur on investment?

O ne of the prime financial IQ’ s needed to invest in real estate successfully is getting the right information. Erwin Rode is a doyen in the South African real estate industry on property economics, research and getting the best information for investors and landlords. He started his career in real estate at Old Mutual Properties as a Property Economist from 1976 to 1986. Prior to that, he studied a BA at the University of Stellenbosch and later an MBA at the University of Stellenbosch Business School.

In 1987 he started his own property consultancy, Rode and Associates, and until today has been serving the real estate industry for over 30 years already. He is a fellow of the SA Institute of Valuers( SAIV) since 2004 and also a fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors( RICS) since 2011. He is a part-time lecturer for the University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch. He serves as a non-executive director for Pareto Ltd, owner of various shopping centres and commercial properties.
As one of the largest valuation firms, Rode Valuations values residential, agricultural and commercial properties. His focus on commercial includes shopping centres, industrial, hotels, hospitals, dormitories, self-storage facilities and airports. In addition to that, he does town and regional planning including spatial planning, land use management and property market assessments for human settlement developments.
His real estate economics and in-depth research reports in the form of the Rode’ s Report are a quarterly publication for the real estate industry. Rode says he is a realist and his forthright analysis of the market leans to pessimism, which does not always please estate agents, brokers, and investors who
