C ape Town recently played host to a one-of-a-kind Property Buyer Show for first time residential property buyers and investors. The show, aimed at innovatively walking attendees through the property buying process, was held at the Cape Town International Conference Centre (CTICC) on the 8th and 9th April and welcomed hundreds of prospective property buyers and investors through its doors over the course of the two days. According to Richard Stubbs, Event Director at Spintelligent/Clarion Events, the show’s main goal was to provide a one-stop shop where property buyers could efficiently compare property options and make informed decisions. “The show offered potential buyers and investors a transactional platform to engage with the residential property sector. It showcased the latest developments within the Western Cape, while, at the same time, educated and informed property investors about building wealth through a property portfolio. This was done with a series of seminars and workshops presented by successful investors and property thought leaders. “We were very pleased to welcome visitors from Gauteng, Eastern Cape and KZN, as well as visitors from throughout the Western Cape at the show. These visitors were able to interact with regional and local brands from Cape Town CBD, Atlantic Seaboard, Southern Suburbs, Northern Suburbs, West Coast, Cape Winelands and the Overberg,” said Stubbs. Education and opportunity With over 40 exhibitors in the finance and property zones, and 30 seminars and workshops running throughout the day (between the first-time buyer seminar theatre and the property investor theatre), attendees had ample opportunity to compare options and approach the experts to have their pressing questions answered. “The theatre content was exceptionally well received and provided a lot of value for visitors. The Property Investor Theatre, in partnership with Pam Golding Properties, was particularly popular with standing room only at times. The content in the Standard Bank First-Time Buyer Theatre provided practical guidance on how to navigate the home buying process. The seminar and workshop content will be an integral part of the event format for future shows,” said Stubbs. Real Estate Investor Always eager to support first-time investors and homebuyers, Real Estate Investor Magazine partnered with My Bond Fitness to host a stand at the show to educate attendees about South Africa’s first online, paperless, home-loan prequalification services, developed by My Bond Fitness. REIM’s very own publisher and founder, Neale Petersen, also presented to a packed audience in the property investor theatre on the ‘dos and don’ts of becoming a property investor. Petersen had the following to share about the Show: “Property events with an education angle are always well received. People need to constantly update themselves with new property investor insights, as there are always events, whether macro or micro, that impact the markets and the investor directly. “Political manoeuvres by President Zuma have shaken the confidence of investors both locally and internationally. This affects investor sentiment and how investors act. Despite the shifts in markets, micro issues presented at the show are more relevant and useful for investors looking for tools to be better equipped to outperform the market.” And was the Show a success? Stubbs believes so: “From the visitor survey, we can conclude that 88 percent of visitors’ expectations were met ‒ and exceeded ‒ and a whopping 72 percent of attendees are in the market to buy a property right now!” RESOURCES Spintelligent/Clarion Events MAY 2017 SA Real Estate Investor 29
