A Closer Look at Steyn City
Beyond Compare
S
teyn City Lifestyle Resort surpasses any other
development in South Africa, in terms of size,
scope, vision and facilities. It has distinguished
itself to be truly without peer.
It takes a special kind of foresight to come up with a
concept of this nature and, more importantly, bring it
to life; the kind of business smarts possessed by Douw
Steyn and Giuseppe Plumari.
Steyn City is not the first collaboration between
the insurance maven and Plumari. The pair had
already had a longstanding relationship by the time
Steyn told Plumari he would like to bring to life a
development that could stand proudly alongside – if
not exceed – the best estates in the world. It’s a dream
that is well on its way to being fulfilled, with New
World Wealth last year ranking Steyn City as fourth
among the country’s leading residential estates – a
significant accomplishment for a development that is
still very new, and (unlike the top three estates) lacks
the advantage of a coastal location.
Added to this, the development continues to
attract attention from purchasers. At a time when the
property industry is showing a significant slow-down,
Phase One is completely sold out, and development
on the next cluster development is well under way.
Much of the Steyn City Parkland Residence’s
extraordinary success is due to the fact that Steyn and
Plumari took a move to install all infrastructure before

taking their product to market. This has removed the
guesswork for would-be residents: far from trying
to imagine what their future home will look like,
or worrying that the developers’ promises won’t live
up to reality, they have been able to experience the
facilities first-hand, even before moving in. It also
puts credence to the development’s slogan: “We don’t
just say, we do.”
This approach is, of course, one way in which Steyn
City has set itself apart from other lifestyle estates.
Another is through the quality and variety of its
offering: a magnificent parkland setting (planted with
over half a million trees, shrubs and ground covers)
creates a peaceful and tranquil haven; an atmosphere
which is amplified by careful planning which sees
each residential village located within a quiet cul-
de-sac. Residents have a vast choice of recreational
activities and amenities, ranging from fine and casual
dining options to a world-class golf course, equestrian
centre and kilometres of track for running, cycling
and horse-riding. Plans to open Steyn City Schools
in January 2018 are well underway, and next on the
agenda is the establishment of a business park.
It’s not surprising, then, that Steyn City has become
one of the most enviable addresses in South Africa.
