He attracted billionaire retail tycoon Christo Wiese who brought his retail assets (70% of his net worth) including PIC money, big business names, leaders and investors into the Steinhoff stable. In 2016, Wi- ese’s net worth was $8,5 billion. What was eventually uncovered was one of the biggest accounting scandals, massive fraud, and off balance sheet transactions. The share price crashed including Wiese’s net worth to $1,2 billion. The big lesson here was we did not know the CEO was a fraud who cooked the books. The other lesson is to know how to read a balance sheet properly, understand what are ac- tual assets and liabilities, or abstain from investing. You can be investing the same way as Warren Buffett or even as Jeff Bezos from Amazon, who is our technopreneur on our cover this month. He is officially the wealthiest person in the world today, with a personal net worth of $131 billion. He says, identifying your passion is central to the career advice he gives his interns, young employees, and his four children: “You can have a job, or you can have a career, or you can have a calling,” he says. “And if you can somehow figure out how to have a calling, you have hit the jackpot, cause that’s the big deal.” According to the billionaire, most people never realize their true calling. In fact, many are lucky to have a career, while most just end up with a job. As Robert Kiyosaki says, there are winners and there are learners. The safest invest- ment is into yourself. Invest in your mind first. Nobody can take away what you’ve learned. They can take your home, your business and your share portfolio away, but you’ll just get them again, because they can’t take away your knowledge. Successful investing.
