A sound investment
James Glew talks
about why he
became a Chartered
Accountant and how
he helps his clients
obtain finance for
investment ventures
in the UK.
Q: How did you become involved
in the property industry?
A: “I have always been attracted
to property as an investment
vehicle. I was looking for an
investment vehicle which
produced monthly returns on
a fairly passive basis. Being a
Chartered Accountant and
‘selling hours’ with many of my
professional clients, who were
also doing the same, I can see
that many of my clients wanted
to build up a property portfolio
that will generate a monthly
passive income separate from
their profession.
The lesson was not
learnt on the first property
investment, it would have been
nice if this was the case but in
work – then take action quickly.
Procrastination will kill any
potential deal.”
Q: Who do you consider to be your
most important mentors or
role models?
A: “There are many people who
assist in putting together a
successful project. It is a team
effort; each party has a role to
play. I surround myself with a
good team and with individuals
whom you can rely on and
trust.”
my case I only learnt it many
years afterwards. The future
revenue stream is significantly
more valuable than the short
term capital gain that can
be obtained by selling the
property. Do not be tempted to
take the short term profits by
selling a good asset.”
Q:
What has been your most
significant property deal?
A: “There is no one single project
that stands out, as each one
has its own story. However, the
one common tread is to take
action, do your due diligence,
make sure that the numbers
Q:
What is your life
investment philosophy?
and
A: “Be excited by what you are
doing, it is critical for longevity
in the property business.
Do not sweat the small stuff.”
Q: What motivates you?
A: “On a work front, it is putting all
the various parts of the project
together, ensuring they all fit
together; property, finance,
legal, investors etc. When they
all align in a common goal its
exciting. Making sure that
it is profitable for all parties
involved and that we have fun
while we do it.”
