M anaging Director of Tongaat Hulett, Michael Deighton, was elected as the new South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) President for 2015/2016 at the annual SAPOA International Convention and Property Exhibition in Durban. “I am deeply humbled and privileged to be able to be SAPOA’s President for 2015/2016,” Deighton said. “While relationships are critically important, research is just as crucial. We need to collaborate on research with each other and with government in order to acquire better data which can help pull us together and help move the country forward.” “Education is a central priority. We will be establishing a further initiative in order to see where we stand in terms of the need for skills,” he added. “With advocacy, we need to be advocates for success. Leadership is key – it allows us the ability to change our landscape and move things forward. We need to innovate and inspire.” The commercial property industry “Is about the people. People make a difference. Risk is about people and their behaviour. In this world, humanity seeks an anchor,” Deighton concluded. RESOURCES South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA)
