INVESTOR TALK
FROM THE EDITOR
Welcome to the February edition of REIMAG. I hope your start to 2014 has been great!
In this edition, we investigate the latest developments in murky world of banking, money and finance, and
uncover some ways that investors can circumvent a financial system designed to ensure the vast majority of
people will never know financial freedom. We also take a look at what’s been making the headlines in property
over the last few months, and share some tips for selling, buying and avoiding dodgy developers. To succeed,
you need a burning desire to succeed, which will generate the drive and passion to overcome any obstacles
in your path... just ask Lucky Mabena, our featured investor. 2013 was certainly a year to remember, with
scandals, corruption and the passing of an icon. But it’s a new year and with that comes a new face for the
magazine! We have spiced things up a bit and hope you like it! It’s also a year for change, and this will be my
last edition as editor of the SA Real Estate Investor Magazine. Thank you for the wonderful comments we
have received about the magazine - we love hearing from you, so keep it coming! I would also like to welcome
the new editor, Tracee Hardvard, who will continue to deliver the same level of excellence and high standard
of editorial.
May your property investment year be a fruitful one!
Happy Investing!

FROM THE PUBLISHER
As for many other South Africans, Nelson Mandela is my hero. He has left an indelible impact on the world
through his vision, leadership and ability to reconcile people in volatile situations. Appearing after 27 years in
an ‘apartheid’ prison bearing little malice, he humbled us all into becoming better human beings.
If you’re an investor, a struggling business owner or an individual facing many challenges, take a deep breath,
draw your second wind, dust yourself off, jump back into the ring and fight. This inspirational advice comes
from Madiba himself, who said: “Do not judge me by my successes, judge how many times I fell down and
got back up again.” The fight is not against anything or anyone, it is about becoming a better investor, a better
business owner and a better person Fight against being average, fight against mediocrity and fight against
being a mere commodity. Fight to make yourself and your business better, more visible, more valuable. Learn
from the best investors and apply the words of wisdom and the principles from Warren Buffett, the world’s
no. 1 investor, and from the ‘Boere Buffett’, Jannie Mouton, who himself applied principles from Napoleon
Hill to become a billionair
