ome security is a really big deal in SA,
whether you live in a townhouse complex,
a gated estate or an ordinary suburban
house - and can make a major difference to the
price any future buyer will be prepared to pay for
your property.
In fact, for many prospective buyers, security – or
better security – is now the number one consideration
when they are buying a new home, influencing both
their choice of location and their choice of which
home to buy within their preferred area.
This is quite natural, because everyone wants to
feel safe in their home and be able to sleep at night
without worrying about any unwelcome “visitors”.
They also want to be able to go out and about to
work and school and so on, and away on holiday
sometimes, and not come back to find that their
home has been burgled or vandalised. It is also very
evident from the fact that those who can afford to do
so will pay a premium to live in an access-controlled
apartment building, a guarded estate or even a
