HOSPITALITY REVIEW The Plettenberg Hotel A luxurious sea view escape BY NEALE PETERSEN W alking into the doors of the five-star, Plettenberg Hotel, the noise of the rolling waves ushered me outwards to the breathtaking beach and sea views. Guests are bound to spot dolphins and whales during their stay at the hotel. A slogan used by the hotel, ‘where the horizon meets the sea’ is more than an apt description of the location of the hotel. The adventure options for guests are endless with nearby nature walks, canopy tours, whale watching and dolphin-spotting boat trips. The Plettenberg hotel is part of the prestigious Liz McGrath Collection group of Boutique Hotels which includes The Cellars-Hohenhort in Cape Town, The Marine hotel in Hermanus. Wind down and watch the sun set with a refreshing cocktail at the in-house Sand Bar. A trip to the seaside town of Plettenberg Bay would not be complete without a delicious seafood dish and is available alongside the Sand Bar. SeaFood at the Plettenberg Bay is bound to satisfy one’s cravings with an alfresco dining experience on offer. Along with 35 elegantly styled rooms, the hotel offers two family-styled villas which showcase pristine views of the ocean, mountains and beach. The hotel provided us with the in demand corner sea-facing room, which meant waking up to a view of the ocean. Walking onto the step out balcony we were welcomed with 360-degree views of the bay. A unique feature of the hotel is supplying guests with a cellphone offering free calls and identifies surrounding attractions, events and nearby restaurants. Facilities include two rim-flow pools, a wellness spa and a boutique. I opted for a massage at their inhouse spa and was not disappointed as the sports massage on offer is one of the best I have had. Direct access to the beach is available for guests, promising a sun and sea filled breakaway. Overall, the two-night stay at The Plettenberg Hotel was a memorable experience which I would love to repeat at the drop of a hat. The exceptional service, proactive staff, spectacular views, scrumptious food, luxury accommodation are a mere few highlights of this premier hotel in Plettenberg Bay.
