On February 17th, a few days before my birthday, I received a call from
my brother in Italy - one I wish I had never received. My brother called
me to let me know that my mother had unexpectedly, but peacefully,
passed away in her sleep. This was a shock as my mom was a very
healthy, active, independent and vibrant woman. She left behind two
sons, two grandchildren and too many fashionable shoes to count.
