In today ’ s increasingly volatile socio-economic and political world , quality journalism that is fair , accurate and unbiased , remain critical . It is less about the story and more about the layers and context of the story that need to be explored . The SAPOA Journalism Awards for Excellence are designed to applaud local media who use their words boldly to tell the truth and challenge the status quo .
The media landscape is changing at a rapid rate . While presentation on different media platforms used to be important not too long ago , the key to success in media nowadays is content , irrespective of the platform on which it is featured . Most journalists nowadays work across many platforms and it is not unusual for someone considered to be a print journalist to also produce webinars , host events , videos , audio , online and social media offerings .
The SAPOA Journalism Awards for Excellence needs to keep abreast with these changes . Categories will now be content-driven as opposed to platform or aesthetics-driven . The awards seek to identify wellinformed , researched and credibly presented in-depth reporting that makes a difference and reports objectively on the property industry .
Real Estate Investor Magazine already a two time Publication of the year magazine award winner and also winners of top feature journalist on two occasions , were awarded as runner-up publication for the 4th time over their 16-year tenure .
List of categories with strict criteria for judging panel to determine nominees and winners in each category : 1 . Are the stories contained relevant to the property industry ?
2 . Does the publication edition have a well-developed clear focus and theme that runs throughout ?
3 . Did the writers succeed in presenting the various stories contained in an understandable , accessible way ?
4 . Did the writers display quality language use in terms of style , tone , grammar , sentence construction ?
5 . Did the journalists display a deep understanding of how to use the written word to communicate effectively with readers ?
6 . Was there a strong , compelling introduction to each story ?
