AI KNOWLEDGE BASES
In my view, organisations should strongly consider creating a Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer( CAIO) role.
Much like the Chief Technology Officer became essential during the digital revolution, the CAIO would be responsible for integrating AI across organisational boundaries, balancing technical, operational, and ethical considerations.
Other new roles are emerging as well, including:
Knowledge Engineers- experts in structuring and curating internal information for AI
Prompt Engineers- specialists in designing prompts for large language models
AI Systems Architects- responsible for designing scalable, secure AI infrastructure
Use-Case Specific AI Engineers- tailored specialists for fields like property management, customer service, or finance.
Naturally, the extent to which companies invest in these roles will vary depending on their size, industry, and the criticality of AI to their operations. In addition to people, companies must make good decisions about systems and platforms.
A key choice is whether to build internal systems, leverage external solutions, or pursue a hybrid approach. Regardless of the path chosen, certain capabilities are essential when establishing an AI-ready knowledge base:
