In the Student Accommodation sector there is a capacity gap of more than 500 000 beds . In the last two years ( 2020 , 2021 ) NSFAS spent an average R11,9 billion per annum on student accommodation funding and at this conference , Minister Tebogo Letsie announced a funding increase to over R19 billion for 2023 . At least 420,000 students each year are in university and TVET accommodation . Out of this , approximately 43 % was for institutional residences and 57 % was for private accommodation . The opportunities for new developers to enter this space is immense , given that there is a specific service offering that is provided .
The use of technology is another key focus for Innovative Building Technologies ( IBTs ) which can reduce the cost of building materials by more than 10 %. The unpacking of technologies in improving efficiencies and looking at best practices in this space is well known and needs to be unpacked more , in future discussions . honour and acknowledge the remarkable women who are driving change and innovation in the property business .
