The metaverse has been front and centre of many conversations and seems to be on everyone ' s lips these days whether in a tech or general convo spurred on by high-profile moments .
However , a new study shows that only 15 % of people are actually able to explain what it is .
The study done by Wunderman Thompson Intelligence surveyed 3,005 people in the US , China and the UK between the age of 16 and 65 years and also showed this :
• Of those who understand the Metaverse , 74 % describe it as the future , 72 % as the next big thing , 68 % as the next internet , and 66 % as life-changing
• Respondents are concerned about children ' s privacy ( 72 %), adult privacy ( 69 %), data protection ( 69 %), children ' s safety ( 66 % ), and bullying ( 57 %) when they think of the Metaverse
