Editor’s Word
Welcome to the second issue of RealMag.
A big thank you for all the support following the launch of the new look. I’ll admit, there’s been a teensy bit of
pressure to make sure this one is just as good! Fingers and toes crossed you’ll find time for a quiet bevvy of your
choice and discover loads of inspiration inside.
This month we’ve focussed on women in business as we celebrate International Women’s Day. We get to
celebrate how amazingly awesome we are as individuals and how powerful we are as a collective. We get to see
how far we’ve come, but also how far we have to go. We’ll continue to push for gender parity, so we’re recognised
as equals for the work we do. We know we need to keep the momentum going with movements like #MeToo and
#TimesUp so the dark cloud is lifted. And we know we need to #PressforProgress to keep moving forward. It’s all
positive and good.
Do you know what we also need to do? We need to thank the women that make our life just a little bit easier and
a whole lot brighter. The ones you call when you’re feeling like you want to throw it all in. The ones that offer you
a shoulder to cry on, or an ear to vent to when your partner just doesn’t understand. The ones you know have got
your back when you think your world is crumbling around you. These are the women to recognise and celebrate.
You know who they are and what they mean to you. Make sure they do too. It doesn’t require a present, a big
gesture or a hashtag. All it takes is the simple message “Thank you for being my friend.”
International Women’s Day is recognised once a year, but the fabulous women in our lives are there
for us 24/7. If that’s not a reason to celebrate, I don’t know what is.
