In recent years there has been a resurgence in interest in craft brewing
with many places now stocking beers, larger and cider that you will
never have even heard of. Here at Re: Magazine we thought it best to
investigate and find out a little more.
Exact definitions of what craft brewing is vary but in essence it is
small scale production by independently owned breweries. These
are generally characterised by their emphasis on quality, flavour
and brewing technique.
To find out what all the fuss is about we teamed up with our
good friends at The Crafty Chooks in Hove that specialise in craft
beer (and chicken) who supplied us with a few to try. Here at
Re: Magazine we are never shy at trying new things so we enlisted
some help and set about tasting them.
Thanks to Annika, Gail, Cynthia, Rob and Nick who joined me,
Laurence and Liza to taste a dozen craft brews – it’s a tough job
but someone had to do it.
The tasting involved scoring each brew in five areas: Appearance,
Smell, Taste, After Taste and Drinkability to give a total out of 100.
