competition, it demonstrated a wealth of
talent in the area, which I hope will be
encouraged this year and that they take
advantage of the package of assistance
the prize provides.”
It was announced that the showcase
event and winner announcement for
2014 to 300 guests will once again be
at held at Brighton Racecourse with
staging from Avensys AV on 22nd April
2014.
Speakers at the event included Mike
Holland who shared his entrepreneurial
journey with the audience and the
importance of Corporate Social
Responsibility of organisations in the
changing world of business today.
Itziar Leighton – Director of Enterprise
and Commercial at City College
Brighton spoke about her involvement
in the project last year and went on to
explain how entrepreneurial skills in
young people are key for employers to
embrace as entrepreneurs have the
vision, passion and enthusiasm to take
a business to the next level. Itziar further
added “I am really excited to be working
with Young Start-up Talent again, having
seen the development of our students
last year. Bring it on!”
Sam French of Sam’s Kitchen and
winner of the Gatwick Diamond region
commented on how far he has come in
just six months. “It’s a great opportunity
for any young person who wants to start
a business, even if you just have an
idea, come and speak to them, they are
some of the best business minds in the
area. Sam’s Kitchen has even supplied
lots of them; even if you don’t win you
get loads of great contacts. I would like
to wish everyone the best of luck in the
competition this year.’
Andrew Hookway of extech and who
donate to the prize fund, a laptop and
IT support for 12 months to the winner
in each area of the Young Start-up
Talent said “We are proud to have been
supporters of Young Start-up Talent
since its inception. We have been
impressed by the quality of the business
ideas and how previous winners have
begun to develop their businesses.
Today’s young entrepreneurs are
tomorrow’s future.”
Max Robinson of MCR Print who
provides print to the winner’s prize
package added “Being involved
with Young Start-up Talent is really
worthwhile and it’s great for young
entrepreneurs to be given such a great
opportunity”. Laura Murphy of MTC2
further commented “It was exciting to
see the range of wonderful ideas that
were brought to the competition last
year. I am looking forward to finding out
what the young people will bring to the
table this year”.
The Young Start-up Talent team will be
delivering workshops and assemblies
to schools, colleges and Brighton
University in the area. The team
have dates lined up from now through
to January to further deliver their
entrepreneurial message to schools and
colleges across the region. If you haven’t
