a true village tradition. Last year the fete
raised over £9,000 towards the upkeep
of the church, it was extremely lucky that
it was held on the only sunny day in what
was a very wet July.
I have loved growing up in Bury, there
is a strong sense of community and
determination to carry on the best
traditions of village life as well as an
ambition to make the most of the
surroundings. This is evident in the
thriving pubs, restaurants and shops
which are valued by the residents.
Reflecting on my childhood I appreciate
that it was a privilege to be surrounded
by countryside and be a valued part of
a village where everyone knows and
looks out for one another.
My favourite place in Bury is the wharf of the river
Arun. As a child I spent many days building dens
in the fields and fishing in streams, the more
adventurous of my friends built a canoe and would
swim in the river.
