future. We’ve identified the work that really needs to happen within the next five or ten years, and in doing that we’ve revealed the true nature of the problem to ourselves and more widely. It’s really important that we make sure that these iconic buildings and their heritage and history is preserved for the country. That’s not an empty threat. It’s a very real response to the climate that we’re in. We know what can happen if we let things slide; there are other examples, nationally and within our city, where not doing work - at a stage where it is possible to do something imaginative and creative rather than simply remedial - has led to an even larger bill and an even bigger problem.
