Letter from the CEO
Evelyn Hunter
It is still evident that issues of bank culture continue to haunt the world ’ s largest quoted banks . The recent Wells Fargo scandal has provided us with a concrete and highly relevant example of the importance of bank culture . RBA believes that the answer lies in the area of culture because organisations with good cultures have long-term perspectives which help greatly in ensuring that an RoE target does not become a wrecking ball .
Ultimately , we believe that the best hope for better retail banking lies in banking becoming a profession like accountancy and law where bankers are obliged always to act in customers ’ best interests . So in support of our commitment to promote retail banking as a profession , RBA has launched the world ’ s first international professional community of its kind anywhere in the world , exclusively dedicated to retail bankers . The RBA Membership programme has been designed to support fully or part-qualified RBA Candidates throughout their careers by providing a wide range of continuous professional development and networking opportunities .
Over the past few months , RBA ’ s international journey has taken us to Myanmar where our partnership to bring professional education in retail banking to Myanmar with the Myanmar Financial Centre has been recognised by the Central Bank and the country ’ s Ministry of Planning and Finance . In China , RBA has laid the foundations for a strategic local partnership with the Chinese Museum of Finance Group which has delivered dozens of training courses in the fields of Mergers & Acquisitions and Fin-Tech , having issued over 3,000 certificates . On the other side of the world , RBA has launched a local partnership with PwC Colombia . where we were privileged to be inducted into PwC ’ s Hall of Fame which honours PwC ’ s international and national partnerships . And such was the impact of the first RBA programmes in Iran at Saman Bank ’ s Academy that the bank now has plans to make RBA ’ s qualifications mandatory for its existing and aspiring managers in retail banking .
We have demonstrated that the principles of best practice and excellence in customercentric retail banking resonate across the world . I believe that working together , we can contribute more to transforming the banking profession and raising professional standards than all the banking regulators worldwide .
It is in this spirit that we at RBA say thank you for your support , with best wishes for the holidays and New Year – we look forward to working with you in 2017 and the years to come .

The quality and standard of teaching is exceptional , and is second to none in my experience of these kind of programmes . The way that they bring their own experiences to life , we ’ ve learned from some of their mistakes . They ’ ve been very open and honest about things that didn ’ t quite go
right for them over their long and very impressive careers .
