Units that flipped tended to grow at the same pace as , if not slightly slower than those not classed as flip sales , and return less consistently than in houses . Nevertheless , units remain by far and away the more popular flipping option for investors .
So what does this mean for flip sales in general ? For houses it ’ s seen as more profitable to hold the property for longer , as house prices outside of flipper sales outpaced flipper sales themselves . This may seem puzzling , as generally a flip sale may include improvements made during the holding period . It ’ s worth considering that the fast turnover of a house is likely a red flag to potential buyers .
With units , there ’ s another phenomenon , where purchases made off the plan at a discount may be sold on completion of construction for a profit . While unit flips were less profitable than houses , they kept up with unit sale prices for units with a longer holding period .
