Process
Balancing her family’s reverence
for feng shui and her need for
a functional bedroom, Jeryl
questioned: is feng shui about
clutter and/or declutter? The
incessant ritual of cleansing the
home by adding in more feng shui
items, constantly changed her
bedroom spatial configuration
and often proved to be a sensory
overload.
For the overall framing of her sharing, Jeryl wanted to offer
the audience her experience of feng shui. Partly inspired
by the virtual game SIMS, she wanted to give them the
liberty to furnish her bedroom from a clean slate. Due to
the exploration, the activity needed to be governed by the
principles of feng shui.
Creating rules to govern the activity was important and
she started reading extensively while also started chatting
with friends who believed in feng shui. Since there was a
lot of information, Jeryl started sieving out portions that
could be used as digestible bits for the activity. Firstly,
she chose the 9-grid feng shui map as it could be overlaid
on a rectangula r bedroom floorplan with ease. Then she
curated the information as “Dos and Don’ts” for audience to
understand feng shui concepts.
