As he progressed, Matthew turned to sociological experiments. To encourage an honest Q&A that was not always politically correct, he aimed to decrease the social desirability bias. Some amount of anonymity became necessary to protect both parties. So he decided to answer through a camera live-feed. This allowed him to be in a private space and offered the audience a critical distance for this experiment. A facilitator would read the questions penned by audience to prevent any unwanted voice recognition. Watching recordings of his live-feed, he was able to spot the various indicators of his mind’s chatter. Understanding that this is a viable working method to understand oneself, Matthew decided to test a similar approach on others.
