As he progressed, Matthew turned to sociological
experiments. To encourage an honest Q&A that was not
always politically correct, he aimed to decrease the social
desirability bias. Some amount of anonymity became
necessary to protect both parties. So he decided to answer
through a camera live-feed. This allowed him to be in a
private space and offered the audience a critical distance for
this experiment.
A facilitator would read the questions penned by audience
to prevent any unwanted voice recognition. Watching
recordings of his live-feed, he was able to spot the various
indicators of his mind’s chatter.
Understanding that this is a viable working method to
understand oneself, Matthew decided to test a similar
approach on others.
