Dubbed as one of the most highly anticipated electronic device set to arrive in 2014, they showed off what the device can do in the CES press conference. Words like “unmatched immersion” and “genius technology” were being thrown around by the journalists, proving that the excitement behind this piece of technology is high. The head-piece covers your whole eye so nothing else except the screen can be seen. Coupled with head movement and neck tracking sensors, and a camera that senses body movements, the Rift can guess where you want to look and show you the imagery of that direction. That means you can lean forward, backward, rotate your head left or right, and it gets translated to the virtual reality world inside the head-piece. In short, you can literally walk and turn and have a 360 view in the VR. The primary focus of Oculus Rift right now is gaming. Immersive game worlds are being developed for Rift as we speak, that let you live out your fantasies right from your couch. But as you can imagine, the potential of this device in military and hospital training is enormous! The device is still in development phase, and Oculus VR hopes to release it to consumers by the end of the year! So look forward to this one!
