What are your responsibilities in this college? Y: I manage and handle practicals if staff is not available at that time, if there are any problems with networking of a lab then it’s my responsibility to solve them and also check system problems if any. P: When I joined this college there were only 2 computer labs, those on first floor. So I was given the responsibility to setup those labs on third floor, and we didn’t have a server room back then. I was the one to plan and design one. Let it be ME lab, MAT lab or ELECRONICS lab I designed their network structure. All the softwares which are available on network for students where planned and implemented by myself and Yogesh sir. So it was all pre planned? Y: Actually, when Pradeep sir joined in 2011 he had a rough plan about how we can connect all these networks, so we both together made a good coordination and implemented it. P: We first made various diagrams which included lab structures, inter and intra lab networks, nodes, how cables will go for labs, library and staffrooms on each floor. And we did all this work ourselves, it was a big challenge for us to create server room and everything. And in 2011 we had only 1 serverDNS server. But today in 2014 we have 9 servers including-DNS server, antivirus server, MATLAB server, SQL server, Staff backup server, NPTELL server, MICM server. That is really nice. All this knowledge you have, did you done some special courses or anything like that? P: Actually I have 9 year experience in IT industry. I have worked in industries like DELL, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, HP, Dutch bank, Primal health care and even in RBI. Wow! So what made you come here? I mean how did both of you happen to join SLRTCE? P: I used to work as a vendor, i.e. I used to go in all this companies through third party for my work. My dream and aim was to create and manage my own server room. Whenever I used to go in this big companies like TCS as a vendor, we were never allowed inside the server room. I always used to look at those servers only through glass doors or windows. I always had a dream to manage and operate a server room, this was my main aim which I got to do here. Y: I was a network engineer at Zenith for 1 year and then worked at PRP polytechnic as a lab assistant, I even got the post of head administrator there but things didn’t work out as I had expected. So I came here, again as a lab assistant. First year was a bit challenging and difficult for me, but then Pradeep joined and we started working together. I learned a lot from him, he has way lot of experience than me and is even good at what he does. You guys must have seen the whole college growing right? Being here almost from the start? P: Yeah, when I joined this institute there was no server room here, just a room named as one. But inside all files and documents were kept. So, we both planned and decided to make it an actual server room. Even the location was appropriate, exactly in the center. 26
