The Flight was later re-named 624 Sqn and operated initially out of Algiers and later serving in Italy , France , and Yugoslavia before being disbanded at the end of the Second World War .
In 1957 almost all the RAuxAF Sqns were disbanded with the exception of 3 Maritime Headquarters units ; this was

Since all RAuxAF Regt Field Sqns have a 4-digit number plate starting with the number 2 , 624 Sqn became 2624 Sqn . Both 4624 and 2624 Sqns uniquely share the title of “ County of Oxford ” Sqn .

The Sqn ’ s role at RAF Brize Norton was put into brief hiatus in 1988 when the Sqn was re-rolled as a reenforcement unit to RAF Germany . This continued
until 1992 when the Sqn was A Flt – Germany 1992 re-rolled back to RAF Brize

The next major change came in April 1998 when as part of the Strategic Defence Review , 2624 Sqn ceased being an RAuxAF Regt Field Sqn and was instead re-rolled to a Role Support Sqn and re-titled Air Transport & Air to Air Refuelling Support Sqn ( ATAARS ) with a flight of C130 Reservist Aircrew at RAF Lyneham and 2 flights of Gunners at RAF Brize Norton .
In April 2002 , the Sqn assumed a new role as an Operational Support Sqn and a new title as No 501 ( County of Gloucester ) Sqn comprising a mix of Gunners , Suppliers , MT Drivers , and Flight Operations Assistants and later , from 2005 , reverted to just FP specialists . In April 2013 the Sqn reverted back to its original role of an RAuxAF Regt Field Sqn and its original title as 2624 ( County of Oxford ) Sqn RAuxAF Regt .
The Sqn ’ s RAF Regt personnel have been deployed out of area on several occasions , with individuals recently volunteering to take part in RAF Ops in Romania and Cyprus .
