Future Reserve 2020 / Future Reserve 30

Following the Future Reserve 2020 ( FR20 ) programme , which saw the re-role of 501 and 504 Squadrons from RAF Regiment to Logistics Support Squadrons within the A4 Force , FR20 also saw the reformation of six more RAuxAF General Support Sqns . In 2013 , 502 ( Ulster ) in Belfast , 611 ( West Lancashire ) at Woodvale and 614 ( County of Glamorgan ) in Cardiff were re-formed and in 2015 , 505 ( Wessex ) at St Mawgan , 605 ( County of Warwick ) at RAF Cosford 607 ( County of Durham ) at Leeming were re-formed . In 2016 , 605 Sqn re-rolled to become a Logistics Support Squadron . FR20 also saw the creation of the RAuxAF Band in Oct 2016 . Additionally in 2017 , 601 ( County of London ) Squadron reformed , as well as the formations
of the specialist cyber units ( populated by RAF , RN , and Army personnel ).
The Integrated Review of 2021 refreshed and updated the place of Reserves within UK Defence with the Reserve Forces Review 2030 ( FR30 ). Recognising the changing challenges for UK Defence , it envisioned expanding the role of the Reserves as part of an integrated joint force , helping deliver tasks - such as homeland resilience and defence diplomacy - whilst preserving and enhancing their capability to meet tasks such as war fighting . FR30 also saw the re-brigading of the HQ Air Reserves and Inspectorate and the introduction of the Reserve Support Wing concept .

HQ Reserves Delivery and Policy

The South East Reserve Forces and Cadets Association ( SERFCA ) Employers day at RAF Brize Norton
The HQ Air Reserves organisation stood up under Chief Of Staff Personnel in the newly formed HQ Air Command in 2007 to undertake all RAF reserves policy business upwards to MOD ; outwards to the sister Services , the Council of Reserve Forces and Cadets Associations and the UK Reserve Forces Association ; and downwards through the Groups to the RAuxAF squadrons .
Before then there had been separate entities in HQ Personnel and Training Command to undertake personnel policy issues and career management of reservists and another in HQ Strike Command which was more aligned with the operational utilisation of the RAuxAF . The new organisation was designed from the outset to be a onestop-shop for all issues to do with not only the RAuxAF but also the increasing number of RAF Reserve personnel serving on Full Time Reserve Service , Additional Duties Commitments and Sponsored Reserve terms and conditions . The new organisation also created the innovative Volunteer Ex-Regular Reserves cohort on special terms and conditions . The HQ Air Reserves concept was extremely successful and
enabled a coherent , single voice on all reservist issues which proved particularly important when dealing with MOD and initiatives such as the Cottam Review , Futures Reserves 2020 , ASTRA Reserves Optimisation and Reserve Forces 30 . Today the organisation , led by Deputy Assistant Chief Of Staff Reserves ( Delivery & Policy ), is tasked with the efficient delivery of Reserve capabilities to support RAF and Defence as part of the Whole Force . In addition to the mobilisation of RAF reserves personnel , from all cohorts , the AOR delivers effective Reserves support ( employment policy , higher level personnel management and casework ) and are the RAF lead for strategic level Employer Engagement activity .
On the formation of the RAF Reserves Directorate , the AOR became one of the three pillars , alongside the Reserves Strategic Plans and the Inspectorate RAuxAF , within that overarching organization but remains under the command of Chief Of Staff Personnel .
