I should be allowed to increase my courage” (D5R), and “I think communicating with a patient can be difficult” (D7T). These quotations contain considerations about values, learning outcomes, and learning needs. It is an incipient consciousness of one’s own position compared to competent nursing practice, which can give a preceptor an impression of the student’s previous learning processes and their expectations of the clinical course. In the present meeting, the preceptor has to find out what the student means by “100 % sure”, how to facilitate her courage to take action, and perhaps guide her to understand that, to some extent, being sure often comes from taking action. It is necessary to ask the student to elabo
