Rape Culture Reinforced by the Media 16 | Page 11

Ethan Reeves: I see, and how do you suggest we go forward into the future in order to prevent the creation of messages like this one?

Zerlina Maxwell: I propose that not just in movies but within all realms of media we discontinue the creation of unrealistic expectations. Most of these expectations for men are created when women are treated poorly or as an object that can be won over. The real world doesn't work this way and producers must understand that they are only reinforcing a rape culture within our younger generations. Once our society can except these situations as unrealistic, we can fight for a more safe and nurturing society for women.

Ethan Reeves: wow well it looks like were running out of time! I would like to thank you Zerlina Maxwell for joining us today and providing some interesting input on the medias influence on rape culture. Thank you!

Zerlina Maxwell: It was my pleasure! Thank you for having me once again.
