RAP AND FEMINISM Volume 1 | Page 6

The underlying problem with misogyny in rap is the conditions that black Americans live in. Rap is a reflection of environment. Most families in impoverished homes is that children are being raised in single parent homes where mothers are working hours upon hours and fathers are nowhere to be found. Children are then left without a father figure and a stressed out, angry and overworked mother. Hence, children are never taught what love is due to lack of love being in their home, and this takes a toll on their relationships with people in the future. Particularly men are affected because a boy is already taught to be unemotional. Therefore, their only outlet of the emotional wave they feel is to be bitter towards men (hence the violence in impoverished neighborhoods) and women (hence the intense misogyny).
