“Jacksonville gets labeled as ‘small market,’
but it has a heart bigger than any community
I’ve been associated with in my life,” Khan
said. “Jacksonville will recover and come back
stronger than ever, but who couldn’t use a little
help from our friends?
“I’m hoping that our sponsors, partners and fans
will think of Florida’s First Coast Relief Fund this
week and give what they can. Then, we gather
Sunday at EverBank Field to show the world we’re
back in a big way, as a team and as a community.
This is Jax As One.”
The Jacksonville community answered the
call with a resounding response as dozens of
corporate and individual donors joined Khan on
the fi eld for a halftime check presentation during
the Jaguars game against the Tennessee Titans.
In just fi ve days, Florida’s First Coast Relief
Fund had generated $2.8 million. Those funds
are already at work in the community, assisting
those affected locally by Hurricane Irma.
The Jaguars began handing out a portion of the
5,000 free tickets midweek to fi rst responders
who had been on their feet for days , working
around the clock to get power restored
and assist local residents in the storm’s
aftermath.
“In the midst of our worst of times, our
fi rst responders demonstrate their best. I
am grateful to the Jaguars for recognizing
the tremendous sacrifi ce and commitment
of the teams from the Jacksonville Fire &
Rescue Department, Jacksonville Sheriff’s
Offi ce, City of Jacksonville and independent
agencies,” said Mayor Lenny Curry.
Jaxson de Ville and members of THE ROAR
of the Jaguars crisscrossed downtown to
distribute a portion of the allotment to
organizations representing fi rst responders,
volunteers and organizations like the
Jacksonville Fire & Rescue, Jacksonville
Sherriff’s Offi ce, JEA, American Red
Cross, Florida National Guard and similar
organizations. The remaining allotment was
distributed to residents who were impacted
by Irma through an online ticket giveaway.
Jaxson de Ville and members of THE ROAR deliver free game tickets to fi rst responders
at the Jacksonville Emergency Operations Center.
