Church’s return for a touchdown last week was
the fi rst in his eight-year NFL career, while
Gipson added two interceptions and leads the
team with three this season.
Do not forget the impact of nickel cornerback
Aaron Colvin, who added a team-high 10
tackles last week and two tackles for loss.
“I think the league has started to be on
notice a little bit anyway, and as a team and
a defense we are going to continue to do our
part,” Ramsey said in the locker room after
last week’s win. “We want to be a team that’s
a force to be reckoned with.”
The force begins with the Jaguars pass-rush,
which has collected an NFL-best 20 sacks
through fi ve games.
Veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell
leads the way with six sacks, while Dante

Fowler Jr. has matched his 2016 sack total
with four. Second-year defensive end Yannick
Ngakoue also has four, and is on pace to
surpass his franchise rookie record of eight
a year ago. Malik Jackson’s play from the
interior has made an impact early in the
season, as well.
Add in four defensive touchdowns and 74
points off Jaguars turnovers (53 percent of
the team’s season total), and the impact of
the Jags defense is vital to the team’s success
early in the season and the offense has cashed
in on short fi elds.
The Offense
The Jaguars offense wants to be a group
capable of running the football when the other
team knows it is coming, and that is exactly
what happened last week in the opening drive
of the fourth quarter.
