This rail holiday to Lake Como lets you discover the dramatic beauty of Lake Como, with its sophisticated lakeside villages, historic villas and delightful gardens. An option is to spend a night in Zurich in either direction or add in additional nights at other places in Switzerland.
DAY ONE London to Paris and sleeper train to Milan Travel on an afternoon Eurostar service from London St Pancras to Paris Gare du Nord. Change stations and continue by Thello sleeper train overnight to Milan.
DAY TWO Milan to Lake Como The sleeper train arrives in Milan about 06.00 hrs. You are taken by private transfer to your hotel on Lake Como. Early check-in can be arranged at a supplement.
DAYS THREE TO EIGHT Lake Como Spend six days at leisure on Lake Como. Lake Como is outstandingly beautiful, lined with cheerful resorts, splendid villas and mountainous backdrops. Often called the prettiest town in Europe, the Bellagio is full of quaint cafes and boutiques, which line its little streets and alleyways ascending from the main square. Across a narrow finger of the lake from Bellagio, is the town of Varenna, bursting with gardens and cypresses. Its main attraction is the gardens of Villa Monastero. At Tremezzo another famous villa is Villa Carlotta. The magnificent interior houses an enviable collection of Antonio Canova sculptures including Cupid and Psyche, and its gardens contain a total of 500 species of plants. Two pretty resorts on the lake and the starting points for many excellent walks up into the hills behind the lake are Cadenabbia and its neighbour, Menaggio. The largest town on the lake is Como. Como is an attractive cathedral town, made up of cobbled streets and chic cafes of the old town and famous for its fine silk production.
DAY NINE Milan and sleeper train to Paris A car takes you to Milan for the sleeper train that leaves for Paris about 23.00 hrs.
DAYS TEN Return to London Arrive into Paris Lyon at about 9.30am, and after changing stations take the Eurostar back to London where you arrive at lunchtime.
