Traffic Mobility related issues in Anand Vihar
•
•
•
Rail Passengers coming to Anand Vihar by local and
interstate buses access the railway station on foot after
deboarding at the bus stop near the entrance of Anand
Vihar ISBT or inside the terminal itself. Pedestrians who
deboard at the road side bus stop have to walk along
the footpath to reach the entrance of the Railway Station,
which is about 50 m away. • The IRSDC has a plan to develop AnadVihar as Multi-
modal Transport Hub.
• For smooth circulation of traffic within the area, the traffic
segregation of station bound and through traffic shall be
explored by providing loops directly from road to drop off
areas.
The main entrance to the Railway Station is through
the central podium where baggages are also checked.
Passengers access the waiting lobby through escalators
and staircases. •
There are facilities for both local and interstate buses at
Anand Vihar ISBT. Buses coming from south direction
(from Karkari More side) drop off passengers outside the
ISBT if anyone wishes to deboard there or take a left turn
to enter the terminal.
• Interstate and city buses diverge at the T-junction –driving
towards the left and right respectively.
• Cars, two wheelers, taxis and autos can access the
Railway Station directly from Road No. 56 after crossing
the entry and exit points of the ISBT. These vehicles are
parked in their designated areas in the parking lot in front
of the Railway Station building.
Anand Vihar - Inter State Bus Terminal, Delhi as Multi
Modal Transport Hub:
•
will connect Mukundpur to Gokulpur via Anand Vihar.
The second metro line is proposed in phase 3, and is
under construction which is likely to open this year. The
total length of the metro stretch would be 56 kms and it

Multimodal Integration between Railway Station, ISBT
and Metro Station can be realized when these three
facilities function as “one complex”. Once the passenger
enters or exits from any of these nodes, he can reach the
other two facilities by walking at the same level.
It is a major terminal handling buses heading for southern/south western regions of Delhi such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana
and Rajasthan states. Most Importantly, it is adjacent to the HazratNizamuddin Railway Station that is part of the Northern
Railway and which acts as a directional terminal for all the trains coming from the Southern part of India.
• The Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station which acts as a directional terminal on the Northern Railway is another important
transportation hub located in the area. This railway station is the terminal point for most of the trains that originate or
destine from/to Southern regions of India. Approximately 80-90 trains origin and destine from this station.
• New underground metro link by DMRC connecting East Delhi and West/South Delhi is passing under the Nizamuddin
station hereby enhancing the connectivity of the railway station and the ISBT with other parts of city.
Traffic & Mobility Issues in Sarai Kale Khan
• Heavy encroachment of the carriageway on the Ring Road side Entry by unauthorized parking of private cars, taxis and
IPT modes such as Autos, E-Rickshaws and also by NMT modes such as cycle rickshaws etc.
The walking distances should be kept as short and direct
as possible. This shall also minimize the effort and stress
of a pedestrian, as it shall provide direct connectivity to
his destination. • Encroachment by hawkers is also a major cause for drastic reduction of effective carriageway.
• Complete absence of pedestrian infrastructure such as continues and safe footpaths, night lighting, etc. thus passengers,
visitors and road users become highly vulnerable to vehicle pedestrian conflict in this corridor.
Intermediate Public Transport (IPT) shall have direct
access to main podium of the station for the convenience
of the passengers. • Due to poor connectivity within regional terminals i.e. ISBT, Railway Station and lack of parking spaces for IPT modes
results in chaos and mismanagement.
• Unsafe Crossing facilities for the passengers getting down on the Ring road to access the railway station and vice
