Kochi Metro Update: Kochi Metro Completes One Year of Commercial Operations
Kochi: The Kochi Metro completed 1 year of commercial operations, and was moving on the right track with increase in the number of passengers and income, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said. One of its main achievements was having brought down the loss from Rs 6 crore it incurred in the initial 6 months to Rs 3 crore at present, he said in a Facebook post.
More Information:
• He said, the average number of passengers using the metro has also doubled from 20,000 to 40,000 per day.
• The number of people travelling during holidays has touched nearly 60,000, he added.
• The total length of the Kochi Metro rail is 25 km.
• The phase-1 of the 13.26 km long Aluva-Palarivattom stretch was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 17 last year.
• The foundation for KMRL( Kochi Metro Rail Limited), a 50- 50 Joint Venture of the Centre and the state government, was laid on September 13, 2012 by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
• The 2nd reach of Kochi Metro from Palarivattom to Maharaja’ s College ground in the heart of the city was commissioned on October 3 last year.
Bangalore Metro Update: BMRCL To Begin Operations of 6-Coach Metro Train
Bangalore: Commercial operations of the 6-coach Namma Metro train will begin this Friday, as the BMRCL( Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited) has got clearance from the Railway Board. The train will be operated on the Purple Line( Baiyappanahalli to Mysuru Road), Mahendra Jain, Managing Director, BMRCL said.
More Information:
• The 6 coach train is expected to bring huge relief to lakhs of passengers, especially during the peak hours.
• The carrying capacity of the extended train is close to 2,000 passengers and it can be operated at a speed of 80 kmph.
• He said, the first coach will be reserved for women, as promised before.
• The BMRCL had, earlier this year, reserved the first 2 entrances of the first coach for women.
•“ This is the first six-coach train we are operating. We have tentatively fixed Friday as the date to operate the train.
We are in the process of completing the required modalities before Friday. Getting clearance from the Railway Board is a big booster. By June 2019, the entire fleet will be integrated to six-coach trains.”
• The BMRCL received 3 coaches from BEML Ltd. in February, and had approached the Commissioner of Rail Safety( CRS) seeking clearance in April after various levels of tests. www. railanalysis. com
