179. LARGE SCRIMSHAW SPERM WHALE TOOTH BY THE LOCKET ENGRAVER, circa 1840, a young girl with
long curls and deep dark eyes intensely focused on her cameo necklace, the reverse depicts an off the starboard stern view of the
Constitution, flying colors on the open seas with “Constitution” in script under the choppy water. Length 6 ½ in.
The Locket Artisan is an anonymous hand, active in the early 1840s. Fine lines and dark pigments characterize his work.
