WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW?
THE PROBLEM?
Pacific Ocean water and fish are still being constantly tested for radioactivity, as it still toxifies the ocean even today, three years after the accident.
The tsunami inundation and leaking reactors caused an excess of contaminated water in the reactor and turbine buildings. Run-off that went from the site into the ocean contained dangerously high amount of radionuclides. By the end of March, all storage tanks on site were full of contaminated water pumped out of the buildings. 1000 storage tanks were set up for this, several of which developed leaks.
