Under the SRP Metrology and Measurement Science Committee , there now sit five working groups for the care and maintenance of each of the GPGs . Each member of the working group will review and submit changes and update proposals , all of which will be reviewed and re-reviewed before the proposals are accepted . It is a long process , relying on a team of volunteer experts in each working group , and often there are a lot of updates that need to be applied . For example GPG49 , the first of these guides to be re-published by SRP , has

had a huge number of changes applied since its last edition in 2003 . This is because there have been leaps in measurement improvements , better definitions of uncertainty , better working practices and better quality of information from instrumentation - just some of the detail that needs to be evaluated , approved and applied in the guides . It is no small task !
These guides are a great example of the invaluable resource that SRP provides to the radiation protection community .
“ The Good Practice Guides are an important resource that we refer to on a regular basis when setting up routines and calibration procedures here at Dstl . We are delighted that there is a roadmap to updating these in the near future ( GPG30 and GPG49 already republished ) and we are supporting SRP with this project – a resource in supporting our service .” Simon Threadingham ( Dstl )
