“ Ampair ' s training facility is not limited to serving the company alone . The company recognises the importance of sharing its expertise with the wider market , including public and private sectors . By opening our training programmes to external candidates , Ampair aims to contribute to the growth and development of the HVAC industry . Additionally , Ampair leverages its active manufacturing plant , which houses all the necessary machinery , to provide practical training opportunities . This comprehensive approach allows the company to combine theoretical and practical training methods to produce highly skilled professionals ,” says Button .
With seven distinct courses on offer , trainees are given the opportunity to specialise in their chosen field . While this presents a challenge in terms of supervision and instruction , Ampair provides trainees with experienced mentors who monitor trainees on-site in real-world scenarios . These mentors oversee practical training sessions and conduct evaluations to ensure everyone ’ s progress aligns with the company ' s high standards .
“ Working alongside experienced professionals , trainees have the opportunity to interact with clients , address challenges , and develop problem-solving skills . This unique blend of classroom knowledge and workplace exposure equips technicians and learners with the necessary skills to excel in their future roles ,” he adds .
The company collaborates with government programmes and schools to identify candidates for training . While basic skills may sometimes be a challenge for some applicants , Ampair recognises the importance of bridging these gaps . The company ' s approach involves accommodating candidates with varying skill levels and providing foundational training when necessary .
Prospective trainees are evaluated based on their qualifications and potential for success . Ampair provides comprehensive training for a duration of 6 to 12 months . Afterward , candidates undergo assessment by government schemes to determine their progress . For longer programmes , such as an 18-month initiative , candidates receive financial support from the government , supplemented by additional funds from Ampair to facilitate their skills development .
Button explains that Ampair ' s training courses evolve in line with industry requirements and standards . As a training officer and skills development facilitator , he personally plays a crucial role in aligning the curriculum with the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations ( QCTO ) and the South African Qualifications Authority ( SAQA ). The training materials developed by Ampair adhere to the guidelines set by educational departments and
industry-specific regulatory bodies . Ampair offers standardised programmes , ranging from NQF levels 2-4 .
“ We are committed to delivering training that aligns with the QCTO ' s standards and the emerging Training and Certification Oversight ( TCO ) programme . While the full effect of the TCO programme may take time to materialise , we have been proactive in making the necessary adjustments to ensure compliance . This involves assessing existing programmes , identifying gaps , and working closely with the QCTO to register new programmes that adhere to TCO guidelines . Ampair understands the importance of offering authentic certifications and continuously staying up to date with industry changes .”
