SUPPLY CHAIN STALL
HALTING DELIVERY
For many business owners , the infinity sign on order delivery to you and transferred to your clients has become a great frustration and additional stressor . Although this “ infinity sign ” was the talk of the industry when it started to appear on documents some months ago , it has now become a widespread concern for business owners – some of which now face tough decisions to keep their operations running .
For the local HVACR industry – above the general shipping delays , there is a compounded challenge of manufacture shortages of components further compounded by the chip shortage as suppliers from all sectors around the world catch up on the aftermath of the pandemic - even further compounded by massive increased demand for electronics . Distribution has therefore become a nightmare to negotiate . From the manufacturing level , choosing who to send stock coming out of facility to is no easy feat either .
When thousands of global clients demand products and you only have X value capacity – how do you service your clients ? While some may say “ first in first out ”, this is not as easily delivered because , as is the case , when your clients from other continents have ordered six months in advance trying to prepare for shortages – the poor South African distributors may now have to wait at least six months for production to catch up , and so on . Managing a supply chain so far in advance becomes an impossible job .
If manufacturers neglect their regions , there is a likelihood that they will lose market share to competitors , so a very difficult matter to handle indeed – the fact remains though that the supply chain is affecting local businesses in a big way and now alternative solutions have to be implemented that will probably not be favourable in the long term . You can read more about the supply chain challenges on the new RACA Journal website : www . refrigerationandaircon . co . za
In this issue , we have lots of local news . You can also be a part of letting the industry know your story – all you need to do is call ! Our contributors in this issue cover several business and industry related topics that could impact your business approach .
Our primary project covers a revamp of a distribution centre in Kwazulu-Natal where the original HVAC system just couldn ’ t meet requirements and so an interesting design was applied to manage temperature and RH . Our feature is on industrial ventilation . Did you know that South Africa already has , and is developing new bylaws around air quality and the impact from such things as industrial facilities ? This issue also features Christopher Kent in the personality profile who understands the critical importance of training .
This month ’ s quote is one that I ’ m certain can be associated with on many levels . As we continue to get reminded – the only thing today that we can be certain of is that things will change .
“ Just when I think I have learned the way to live , life changes .” - Hugh Prather
