ASHRAE SA CHAPTER
SOCIETY YEAR 2020/2021
The presidential theme: Together all hands working.
By ASHRAE South Africa
In the last two years we’ve been very blessed as the ASHRAE
SA chapter to have a president in Mr Richard Humphrey, who
has given of his time, energy, and direction for the successful
establishment of the chapter, and made the SA chapter a relevant
chapter of ASHRAE at large.
Based on this, Mr Humphrey is now the incoming SR1 Chairman
starting in the Society year 2020 for RAL: “Congratulations
Richard, and we as the ASHRAE SA Chapter thank you for your
commitments and hard work and wish you success at the greater
Society level,” says new President, Mr Olu Soluade.
OUR ROLE GOING FORWARD
The acronym ‘TEAM’ will form the basis for our ASHRAE SA
Chapter Society year in 2020. So, what does this stand for?
• T: Together: In the last two years, we’ve seen what we can
do together and how we can move forward in strength
and strides. However, this is to be enhanced in this Society
year. We will need every single one of us to stand up and
be counted and put aside our differences and work on
a common goal and that goal is: making our industry
attractive and relevant.
• E: Each: Every single one of us matters. There is no one that
can form an island alone. Our experiences pooled together
will enable us to become more relevant. You matter!
• A: Achieving: Whatever we are now individually is not
compared to what we can be collectively. A collective people
with one goal go further than an individual alone.
• M: More: That is the ultimate goal! The Society can
only move forward when we all work together. Working
ASHRAE SA
together creates a wonderful atmosphere for each one of
us to achieve more. In fact, the good book I read recently
actually recognises that “if the people are one - and speak
one language, whatever they imagine or envisioned to do,
they are able to achieve with no issue”.
In light of our defined roles, we need each and every one of us,
and each hand on the plough, working!
To get everyone working together, we will be focusing on the
following areas for this presidential year:
• Each member to reach one member: for this aspect of our
focus, we encourage each member of ASHRAE to reach
another colleague or friend and encourage them to become
an ASHRAE member. With this movement, we will be able
to double our membership and have a larger resource pool
to draw from.
• Student Activities: in this, we will require each member
to focus on their alma mater (the university, school, or
college that one formerly attended) and set up an outreach
programme that will draw members from this pool. Using
our MOU with ECSA as a basis, we can start engaging on the
road to registration with ECSA.
• YEA (Young Engineers in ASHRAE): we need to have a
concerted effort to promote our YEA. With our MOU with
CESA and seeing the effectiveness of the CESA YEA, and
the Society YEA, we would focus on encouraging our YEA to
participate and take ownership of the Society.
• GAC: our outreach to government and legislators will be
intensified to enable ASHRAE to be a voice in policy making
structures within South Africa.
• CTTC: we will build on the current success of our CTTC
and organise further trainings that are relevant to our
industry.
• Secondary School Outreach: promotion of STEM: this
is cardinal focus of the Society at large and we need to
embrace it and set up outreaches to our secondary schools
to ensure we can get the students into sciences.
All the best to all, T E A M
New President – Mr Olu Soluade.
