CONSUMING INFORMATION LEADS TO SUCCESS
Doing an internet search on success or how to be successful will give you a results number in the billions , the same applies for motivation … Being quite an “ old school ” individual , I can tell you that today , as I experience daily , so much has been lost , in my opinion , in terms of the approach people take to achieve success and the urgent desires to achieve it , also linked to the motivation that is essential in the equation . Success does naturally have a different meaning to each individual .
Humanity has unfortunately become obsessed with instantaneous results though and thus fail on many levels - forgetting that success is actually a consequence . I am reminded of the image I ’ m sure many of you already know well – a demonstration of an iceberg where all you see is the top sticking out of the sea while the majority of it is underwater ( and what no one else sees ). Linked to that are all the challenges involved in achieving success - what people see is only the result and not what it takes to get there .
The simplest enhancement I could suggest for anyone is something I hear literally every time I sit with someone who has achieved a level of success in their lives , businesses or careers , and who are usually an older generation . The words are , “ I recently read in a journal ” or , “ I was engaged by this book .” These people specifically allocate time for continual learning and absorbing information – they are not too busy or ever use the words , “ I don ’ t have time .”
From my own experience , continually learning about new technology and methodology and aspects that directly or indirectly affect our lives is an essential ( no brainer ) part of the process – it ’ s also what keeps you informed to make better choices and make predictions about what the future could hold . What advice or mentorship do you live by or share with your staff or colleagues related to success ?
In this issue we cover pertinent local news for business as well as interesting technology and developments of policies around the world . We have some updates and views from various industry associations and also covered the first in-person technical talk hosted by SAIRAC Jhb in over two years – the subject matter being highly important for the sector : education and training .
We profile Nomfundo Vilakazi of WSP who loves the process of seeing a project coming to life as well as the opportunity to engage all stakeholders throughout and use her knowledge of green star efficiency to guide positive outcomes .
Our feature in this issue looks at the application of the humble split unit that still definitely has a place in commercial applications as this technology too has undergone significant improvement over the years to now even include HEPA filtration , smart connectivity and optimum efficiency above their renewed ability in air dispersion and even motion sensors top the aesthetically pleasing new-looks available . For this feature we have also embarked on creating a matrix of all of the splits / unitary units available in South Africa and will continue to gather a comprehensive list as a quick view for engineers , contractors , specifyers and architects alike . Look out for those updates online and I welcome all suppliers to be involved further .
This month ’ s quote is one from the newly appointed president of ASHRAE that ties perfectly into the things that aid in positive outcomes and how one goes about ensuring you are equipped with the correct resources .
