Local Manufacturing
“Experience with manufacturing of safety critical devices able
to withstand furnace conditions and stringent requirements
for SABS certification provide a barrier to entry. As with many
industries, cheap alternatives from China can affect local
manufacture. However, locally manufactured products offer
shorter lead times and provide flexible manufacturing for
client specific requirements”, he adds.
Materials and components are sourced
from proudly South African suppliers
where possible, and all assembly is
completed in the local factory.
Giving an industry outlook, he says, “I think local
manufacturing will continue to be under pressure in a slow
economy, though growth in other parts of Africa can provide
diversified markets. While, locally we hope for growth and a
booming economy, indications are that trading conditions
will remain constrained in the short to medium term directly
affecting the HVACR market.” In order to stay ahead,
he advises, “as local manufacturers, we need to ensure
that we offer products and services in line with first world
specifications tailored to local conditions and requirements.”

Electrovent is currently working on various additional
product lines for introduction to the local market. “We’ve
implemented a dedicated design function, investing in
modelling software,” he adds.
As part of their expansion plans, Electrovent recently
opened new offices in Midrand to better service clients in
Gauteng and surrounding areas. “The new office provides
local stock holding of dampers and common spares with the
showroom offering clients the opportunity to interact with
the product range. The Gauteng office is headed by national
sales manager, Glenn de Villiers and sales manager Charles
