SARACCA ’ S BOTHA URGES PARTICIPATION IN HVAC APPRENTICESHIPS

In a passionate appeal to aspiring HVAC & R professionals , David Botha , executive director of SARACCA , emphasises the critical importance of apprenticeships in the industry .
Speaking at the opening of ACRA ' s new training facility in Kimberley , Botha reiterated the significance of skills development in addressing pressing issues such as energy efficiency , environmental sustainability and safety .
Botha begins by highlighting the diverse sectors impacted by HVAC systems , ranging from energy production to environmental regulation . “ There is great need for trained professionals to navigate emerging challenges , including the adoption of new refrigerants such as propane and butane . These developments reinforce the importance of continuous training and retraining to ensure safety and compliance within the industry ,” he says .
Acknowledging the South African Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Contractors Association ( SARACCA )' s role in overseeing the registration of gas practitioners through SAQCC Gas , “ The association is committed to promoting professionalism and safety standards ”. With over six decades of experience , SARACCA stands as a vital resource for individuals seeking to enter or advance within the HVAC field , he noted .
Drawing from his own experience , Botha shared insights into the transformative potential of careers in HVAC . “ From humble beginnings simply lugging around heavy equipment and tools , my journey to becoming a seasoned professional showcases the opportunities for growth and impact within the industry .” Again drawing from his own experience as a father and industry professional , he highlights the responsibility of ensuring a better future for the next generation . He stresses the significance of passing on knowledge and expertise to equip future professionals with the skills needed to succeed .
Botha envisions a ripple effect , with trained professionals positively impacting families , towns , and ultimately , the country as a whole .
“ I therefore urge apprentices to seize the opportunity to learn from experienced mentors and to embrace hands-on experience .
