The guests and speakers that attended the momentous graduation ceremony included representatives from ACRA , Ekurhuleni East TVET College , HWSETA , NAMB , QCTO and workplace providers .
After the presentation of certificates , the keynote address was delivered by Margret Molefe , who was very pleased to be a part of the graduation ceremony as a milestone in the students ’ lives , describing the achievement as a beam of light and a beacon of hope that good things are still happening during the challenging times of the Covid pandemic , which has impacted individuals , families and the economy , and commending the hard work and perseverance of students which yielded good returns .
Molefe ’ s message was clear : Use this opportunity to advance yourself . “ Our former President , Nelson Mandela once said : ‘ education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world ’. Therefore , as you receive this certificate , let it not just be a paper that stays in the cupboard or maybe has a place on the wall – let it represent the knowledge that you have gathered and that you are going to utilise and make a living from ,” she stressed to the graduates .
Continuing , Molefe spoke to the graduates about the DFFEs , and the country ’ s connection with the Montreal Protocol which has seen ratification in all countries and was noted as one of the most successfully implemented agreements to-date . She spoke about the subsequent goals in the phasing-out of harmful refrigerants that deplete the Ozone layer and affect global warming ( and which the AC and refrigeration sectors use a lot of ).
Molefe further linked these effects to skin cancer , particularly emphasising that despite certain beliefs , skin cancer does not only impact people who have a light skin , it also affects dark skin . Noting certain areas that are experiencing abnormal conditions and temperatures where skin cancer has seen an increase , alarming statistics show that South Africa has the second highest record of skin cancer in the world , second to Australia .
