WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A NEW YEAR ?
W
hile there is no doubt that some challenge or other will always be a part of business , opportunities will always be there for the taking too .
The new year , in my book , is an opportunity to revisit doing things better and looking forward rather than focusing on what went wrong in the past . Of course when things go wrong , as they do , there is the chance to learn something and bank that knowledge into one ’ s business ' s resillence tank .
There is a lot to to look forward to for 2023 while many “ experts ” have predicted that the supply chain will get closer to correction as the world slows down a little from the knee-jerk reactions seen over the last two years . We are also eagerly awaiting the releases of new HVACR technologies and implementing new methodology into designs as everything and everyone moves closer to improved efficiency and environmental preservation .
Taking what was learned over a difficult period into the future means that many previousunknowns can now be navigated and possibly mistakes can be avoided . This includes what we have seen in other countries in terms of policies and structures around managing things like their refrigerant phase out plans , training of technicians , private sector engagement and improvement of standards and regulations .
Looking at the recent discussions at the COP27 held in Egypt at the end of 2022 , a couple of good statements were aired – these included : “ it is in a human ’ s nature to resist change , but change is urgently required ”, “ role players , being business and consumers alike cannot continue to act like we are not already in a climate crisis ”, and , “ how many more wake up calls do world leaders need to see above the catastrophes already witnessed across the globe in 2022 ”.
As we know , the HVAC & R sectors can play a significant role in reducing the impact onto the environment from multiple-levels . What are your views from COP27 and how the HVAC & R sectors in South Africa can drive excellence ?
In this issue we carry several pertinent news articles from local and international happenings as well as the latest association updates . We feature and celebrate Evapco South Africa ’ s 40 th birthday and reveal the exciting news around the “ new face of training in South Africa ’ s HVACR sectors ” with the announcement of a truly world class and state of the art training campus that will break ground in this month .
Our feature is on heat exchangers – another versatile element in these industries and many more in fact . Did you know that heat exchanger-research and development is even happening at micro scale these days as a holistic approach to heat load and reducing all components contribution – with many advances in data centres too with novel techniques . Our project looks at the latest new Makro installation in Gqeberha with an interesting system to manage the facility requirements of HVAC and refrigeration from one system .
This month ’ s quote is one you can take forward and remind yourself of its meaning regularly throughout the next year – adapt it , print it out and stick it somewhere on your desk or workstation ! “ If last year didn ’ t turn out exactly as you planned , that ’ s ok . You are wiser , stronger and more lessons-learned closer to success .” - Unknown
