WORKSHOPS HOSTED ON NEW EVAPORATIVE TECH PRODUCT IN SA
By Benjamin Brits
Held in Cape Town and Johannesburg , these sessions intended to showcase the latest addition to the Apollo Air stable of products .
The Oxycom evaporative air conditioning brand will now be distributed in the region by the Apollo Air Group and has a couple of unique aspects to build on its standing , while addressing multiple levels of space requirement and importantly , energy efficiency .
Executive director of Apollo Air , Carlo van Wyk welcomed their guests – being a packed room of engineers and contractors at the Foxwood House venue in Houghton , Johannesburg . Approximately 40 participants and staff braved the heavy rains to attend this knowledge transfer session .
In his opening , van Wyk described the initiation and how the relationship with Oxycom came about , and further thanked all attendees for their trust in their dealings with the company and their interest in the new technology that would be presented .
Van Wyk then handed over to Barry Leuverman who is the export director at Oxycom , that offered a brief history of the company and certain research data points used from global sources , whereafter he presented the product and its various features – including the new-type of evaporative media that has an aluminium base and offers , among other benefits , a 5- to 7-year lifespan – speculatively double / triple the lifespan of other evaporative media / pads on the market .
Leuverman shared several slides on capacities , functions and examples of real calculations done in both Cape town and
Johannesburg in terms of ability of the units , as well as examples of installations at various facilities from storage to processing and manufacturing where these units have been used . He also explained the technology that enables these units ( named the IntrCool ) to provide both cooling and heating to a space using a heat reclaim addition . Multiple configurations of the two available models ( small and large ) were presented too , including their addon Oxyvap .
The ‘ small ’ IntrCool unit on display at the workshops . The dimensions of this unit are approximately 1.2m x 1.2m where the ‘ large unit ’ dimension is 2m x 2m .

The range is able to satisfy cooling capacity of 4 to 110kW as a modular build-up design and there was continual emphasis on energy savings as electricity prices globally are on a steep rise . These units also come with the possibility to be coupled to chiller
