all in one venue. You can see so much. You can learn so much. You
can connect with your peers, benchmark yourself, and become
inspired with new ideas for the future. Chillventa is what you
make of it, but it has the potential for so much.
In terms of what I saw in 2018 in particular, the HVAC&R
industry is spending a lot of money and manpower on R&D and
coming up with incredibly innovative, efficient solutions and
alternatives. Things are moving and it is impressive to see where
it is going. It’s all about refrigerants. It’s about the cloud and IoT.
It’s about saving the environment. It’s about a lot of expensive
equipment that are truly amazing to be seen on display. R290 was
the belle of the ball in 2018. The future does seem ‘natural’ indeed.
And very, very high-tech.
Chillventa was all this and so much more.

Is it even still necessary for me to add the usual disclaimer about
how there will never be enough time (or enough pages in this
magazine) for me to give a comprehensive report back on what
I saw (or didn’t see)? With so much happening at the same time,
no two people would’ve had the same Chillventa experience.
Here follows mine.
A REAL EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
If I had to write a real executive summary, it would read:
Chillventa is an incredibly enriching experience and you
should try to attend at some time if at all possible. It gathers
people from so many areas of expertise and so many countries,

IN THE BEGINNING
Chillventa begins long before you walk through the large glass
doors at the NürnbergMesse centre. On paper, the show (and its
extensive number of co-located programmes) lasted only from 16
to 18 October 2018, but from 15 to 18 October if you include the
congress. But for me, this time, it almost feels like it started when
I first got into the industry …
During the show, different connections from different times
crossed my path. Some I have met only briefly before, some I was
meeting for the first time. It was amazing to be a part of it all. The
10th anniversary edition of Chillventa was a milestone in every way.
But a large chunk of the Chillventa story, is getting to and from
Chillventa. It’s not always easy and hassle free, especially not
when you add visa drama and airport security.
But it’s the bit in the middle, 16 to 18 October, when it’s finally
showtime, that makes it all worth it. Because the industry has
come out en masse from all over the world. And they were here
